Jobs for March
This is your last chance to sow bare rooted fruit bushes, and fruit trees (trees must be on a dwarf root stock). Peas can be sown in modules (3 seeds in each) under cover. When they are about 10cm tall they can be planted out in clumps of 3. Early potatoes can be planted in large tubs undercover. Put about 10cm of compost, then your chitted seed potatoes, and then cover with compost. As the potatoes grow through, cover with more compost and repeat until you get to near the top of your container then leave them to grow. Don’t forget to water them. This will give you an early crop of nice new potatoes when they are expensive in the supermarkets.
March is the last month that you can have a bonfire at any time.
Society Shop
This is open on Sundays from 9.30am to 12 noon. There are a really good selection of seeds available. The shop also has feeds etc at very competitive prices. Special offer on Sulphate of iron at only £1 per kilo loose (please bring a container if you have one). They also have Palmers, which is a potato fertiliser, ready for when you plant your seed potatoes.
